BSI Racing found themselves squarely in contention at Barber Motorsports Park, in Birmingham, Alabama over the weekend for the penultimate rounds of the Toyota GR Cup.
After a rainy visit to Road America in August, Mother Nature made her presence known once more at the “Alabama Rollercoaster” during practice on Friday. With a dry session in the morning, rain moved in for the remainder of the day, having the team run on rain tires once again this season.
Max Hewitt posted his best practice result of the season, with a P2 finish after FP1, only a half-tenth off the session leader. Luckily, the rain was only temporary as sunshine finally arrived throughout the remainder of the weekend.
The weekend saw Max’s younger brother Miles, make his pro-racing debut as well. Miles Hewitt (16) kept the car clean all weekend, earning himself a P8 qualifying spot for race one. Miles would go on to finish P13 in that race and improve to P12 in race two.
Max would nab himself a pair of top-10s with a P7 finish in race one and a P8 finish in race two, moving up from P10 after qualifying. Steven Clemons piloted his No. 76 Endava, GR86 to P6 finish in race two. Jordan RickSegrini was right behind the BSI teammate with a P7 finish.
Maddie Aust will look to rebound in Indy after having to retire the No. 09 in race two on the weekend, after finishing P18 finish in race one.
BSI Racing heads to the historic “Brickyard” in Indianapolis for Toyota GR Cup season finale, on October 4th.
