HMS Races The Streets Of St Pete

We were excited to return to St Pete for the 2023 Grand Prix. Like every year, the coast was filled with yachts, the airport was lined with planes, and Indy cars thrilled every gearhead. Not to mention the breeze added to the scenes as we watched the cars drive by the city skyline.

Hixon Motor Sports hit the track on Friday for some practice laps. Everyone racing in the MX-5 Cup missed the first practice, but it was made up with another 45-minute session. Selin Rollan hit the 5th best time at 1:26.036, while Connor Zilisch followed behind Rollan and finished 6th in the series at 1:26.142.

Zilisch qualifies P2 and leads HMS for race one at 1:24.766, only a .013 of a second behind the leader. Also qualifying in the top ten, Thomas Annunziata hit P5 at 1:24.911 and Selin Rollan P7 with a time of 1:25.059. It was a beautiful Friday for the racers.

The action-packed racing began Saturday morning. Connor Zilisch starts in P2 and finishes in P2 in another photo-finish event that puts everyone on their toes.

Rookie Thomas Annunziata and Selin Rollan finish in the top 10 for race one.

Connor starts P3 leading the Hixons through the final race on the tight streets of St Pete, he battles the competition at the front of the pack taking the first position. Near the end of the race, a couple of drivers in the pack crash and bring the track to a yellow flag. Connor Zilich takes the checkered flag under the yellow in 1st place.
